Since 1996, after 7 years of Urban Aid funding, Fife Council has continued to part-fund the organisation. The Centre retains its voluntary status and is a registered charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee. The Board of Management comprises local people and health and social care professionals with an interest in older people. Currently the Chairperson is Helen Welsh (photo).-------->
Abbeyview Day Centre first opened its doors in 1986 when a group of local people recognised that there was a lack of social opportunities for housebound older people living in the area. Originally it was run from the community centre in Abbeyview, just two days a week, by volunteers. Then in 1989 we were allocated Urban Aid grants and were able to convert two ground-floor flats in Inchkeith Drive. At that point we were also able to appoint staff and expand the service to five days a week.

Abbeyview Day Centre

In July 2002, after several years of fundraising, we moved into purpose-built premises in Duncan Crescent. Funding for the new building was raised from the Lottery's Community Fund, and various other charitable trusts.

We are open five days a week and provide daytime care, activities and companionship for fifteen older people. We collect our service users and return them home by minibus, and also run regular social nights. We have a carers' group which meets once a month 2.30pm till 3.30pm, and we run a drop-in lunch group this is open from 12pm till 1.30pm  (photo) which is widely used by local people.
